During the renaissance in France, the government was absolutism. It is a form of government in which a queen or king has all the power over their kingdom. They don’t need to take the advice of anyone such as the parliament, the estates general, or the nobility. They believe that the only person they have to answer to is God. The kings and/or queens controlled their kingdoms money such as taxation or national spending. They are also in charge of government. Armies were also under control of the ruler of their kingdom, so the king made all the decisions for wars. The rulers had unlimited power. Because of that, they started limiting the power of many groups’ freedoms. For example the Jews, their freedom was limited. The power of existing legislative bodies such as the French Estates General was also limited.
